27 year old Oshshakkur Derrick of Somers Point was sentenced to 54 years in prison on murder, robbery and aggravated assault counts. It stems from a November 22, 2020 home invasion on the 100 block of
N. Pennsylvania Avenue in Atlantic City in which Derrick, and another unidentified
male, broke into a house in an attempt to burglarize it but unexpectedly found the two victims
inside the bedroom. One of the victims, a male, was shot in the chest and
ultimately died from his injury. The other victim, a female woke up to a firearm being pointed in her face.
During the home invasion, H.A. was tied up and struck with the firearm. The males threatened to
shoot her if she didn’t tell them where the money was located. She was then struck in the head
and placed in the bedroom closet. Once the men left the residence, the woman was able to get free and
call 911.
