Upgrading Substation Site Of Summer Fire

Atlantic City Electric will spend the next year improving equipment at a city substation that was the site of a fire in the summer that led to a widespread outage across Five Mile Island. According to the Press of Atlantic City, in early July, about 24,000 Atlantic City Electric customers were at one point without power after the fire broke out at the substation on Lake Avenue.
An investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing, but an initial probe suggests a cable below the switchgear building at the substation caught fire. Modernizing the Lake Avenue substation is set to begin this month and continue until about December.
