Some city residents and local civil rights advocates rallied Wednesday afternoon in support of a federal takeover of the Atlantic City Housing Authority. The Press of Atlantic City reports those calls echoed those of U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd, who, on Monday, called for the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to assume control over the authority as its residents say it continues to fail to meet basic living needs. A lack of heat, hot water or both has been reported in recent weeks at authority properties Altman Terrace, Inlet Towers and Stanley Holmes Village, which is also undergoing court-ordered daily monitoring for potential gas leaks.
