ACHS To Appeal Basketball Tourney Disqualification

Atlantic City High School will appeal the disqualification of the Vikings’ boys basketball team from the state tournament before the controversies committee of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association at 10 a.m. in Robbinsville. The NJSIAA governs most New Jersey high school sports. According to the Press of Atlantic City, it’s unclear how long it will take the committee to make its ruling. Atlantic City was disqualified from the tournament earlier this month when the NJSIAA reviewed a video of the team’s 49-48 win Jan. 10 over Mainland Regional and determined that five Vikings left the bench during an incident at the end of the third quarter. NJSIAA rules say a player who leaves the bench is automatically ejected. Any team in any sport with three or more ejections during a season is banned from the state tournament.
