Juneteenth Freedom Day Marked In AC

Juneteenth Freedom Day was marked Saturday in Atlantic City as about 500 people took part in celebration at Brown’s Park in the city’s Midtown section. The Press of Atlantic City reports Juneteenth commemorates the events of June 19, 1865. That was the day that the people of Texas were informed of the Emancipation Proclamation announcing all slaves were free toward the end of the Civil War, although then-President Abraham Lincoln had proclaimed their freedom in January 1863.
