An indictment has been handed up by a federal grand jury in the case of a Guatemalan man accused of traveling to Cape May County last year to kidnap a child for sexual activity. 22-year-old Sergio Gomez faces one charge each of enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, transportation of a minor to engage in sexual activity, and kidnapping. According to authorities, Gomez connected via the internet and other means to try to lure a minor to engage in sexual activity. On July 30th, 2023, Gomez arrived in Cape May County and took that minor to Georgia for that purpose. The child was rescued by the FBI on August 3rd last year.
