Michelle Washington Wilson, an Atlantic city-based storyteller, teaching artist and folklorist, was awarded a $9,941 grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts to help with the preservation of the region’s African American culinary history.Through her project, “With These Two Hands: Preserving and Sharing the Traditional Foods of African Americans in South Jersey,” Wilson will document the food ways of African American farm workers in the 1950s and 60s, in addition to their contribution to the state’s culinary landscape.
