Hamilton township has barred swimming at its lakeside Cove Beach due to the presence of algae blooms, police posted on Facebook.The beach itself is open, but swimming is banned, police said. The department first reported the swimming ban Saturday, citing algae and low water levels.According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a harmful algae bloom occurs when toxin-producing algae grow excessively in a body of water.
