AC Man Arrested On Assault Counts Following Standoff

The Atlantic City Police Department’s Emergency Response Team arrested an assault suspect who initially refused to surrender. Just before 7am Sunday, patrol officers responded to a residence in the first block of north Raleigh Avenue in reference to a woman being assaulted by someone she has a relationship with and threatened with a handgun. Officers located the victim who had clear signs of injuries. Officers attempted to contact the suspect, 33 year old Jamal Bruce, at his residence. It was reported that Bruce was armed with a handgun and had his children in the residence. Bruce refused to come out of the residence prompting a response from the police department’s Emergency Response Team.
Members of the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team called and spoke with Bruce who ultimately surrendered to members of the SWAT Team. The children were not injured. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, to be treated for her injuries.
