Longport Borough Administrator, Former Police Chief Dies After Cancer Battle

Longport Borough administrator and former borough police chief Scott Porter has died, according to statement from the Police Department on Facebook. Porter, 65, died Saturday after battling cancer, according to his obituary. The Press of Atlantic City reports Porter began his career in law enforcement in 1981 at the former Stockton State College, now Stockton University, before joining the Longport Police Department in 1986, where he served the borough for more than two decades. He became the agency’s police chief in 2001, a position he held until his retirement in 2011.
