The Atlantic City Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash where the occupants fled before arrival of police. On February 1, patrol officers along with the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to the area of mile marker 62 US Route 40 for a report over an overturned vehicle and an electric pole down.
A witness reported that he observed a Gray Volkswagon Jetta leave the roadway, collide with an electrical pole, and overturn. Two occupants in the vehicle exited the damaged vehicle, enter a vehicle that stopped for them, and flee the scene. The force of the impact caused the electrical pole to collapse causing a power outage and blocking the roadway for numerous hours. Atlantic City Electric responded and repaired the damaged pole.
