In Estell Manor, a controlled burn of 3.5 acres of the Atlantic County Park is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. today, county officials said. The burn will be conducted by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and the county Division of Parks and Recreation, county officials said Tuesday in a news release. The burns are intended to eliminate underbrush and leaf litter to prevent forest fires, county officials said. They also stimulate new forest growth.
