Some New Jersey lawmakers want the state to prohibit so-called “sweepstakes gambling,” arguing the prize-based games are too close to actual gambling. According to the Press of Atlantic City, two lawmakers have introduced legislation to ban sweepstakes gambling. The bill defines it as a promotional, advertising, or marketing event or game in which something of value, such as a prize or prize equivalent, is awarded, either directly or through a dual-currency system of payment that allows a participant to exchange it for a prize.
