Harvesting Asparagus

New Jersey Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Joe Atchison harvested asparagus Tuesday at a Cumberland County farm and watched it get packed to promote the fact that locally grown produce and other farm products are now available at farmers markets and stores around the state.Atchison visited Sheppard Farms, a family-owned business established in 1888 that employs about 160 workers at its peak, as well as its post-harvest arm, Eastern Fresh Growers.“We are anticipating a great season for our farmers and all who produce Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables,” Atchison said in a statement.
