AC Man Held On Drug Counts

An Atlantic City man charged with third-degree possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia was ordered held in jail last week. BreakingAC.com reports a Superior Court judge agreed with the defense that possessory charges usually do not result in pretrial detention. Instead, he found that Richard Blechl’s long and sometimes violent criminal history, mixed with several failures to appear make him a risk to the community. Blechl, 62, has a criminal history dating to 2000, that includes convictions for criminal sexual contact, simple assault and hindering with force. He has served 18 prior incarcerations of 14 days or more. His most recent was a year sentence for violating the casino exclusion list, which he has been convicted of eight times.
