An Atlantic City man jailed more than 28 years is now married, started his own business and is teaching at his mosque. BreakingAC.com reports Jamal Muhammad was one of a record-setting number of clemencies granted by outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy. With Monday’s clemencies, Murphy, a Democrat, has now granted 217 pardons and commutations since his clemency initiative launched in June 2024. That’s more than New Jersey’s previous governors have done in the past 30 years combined. Jamal Muhammad was 21 years old when he was involved in an Oct. 22, 1996, robbery in Atlantic City that turned deadly, when his the-16-year-old co-defendant shot the victim.
