Coast Guard Rescues Man Having Medical Incident At Sea

The U.S. Coast Guard made a long distance rescue on Saturday, flying 70 miles to medically evacuate a fisherman suffering from an apparent stroke. NJ.com reports around 10:15 a.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard Delaware Bay sector received a call that a crewman aboard the fishing vessel ”Ocean Prowler” was seriously ill, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said. The Coast Guard initially responded by sea and air. A 45-foot boat got underway from the Coast Guard station in Cape May while a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter took off from Atlantic City.
The victim was a 39-year-old fisherman who was exhibiting stroke-like symptoms. The fisherman, who was not immediately identified, was flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. His status was not available as of Saturday night.
