Late Friday, U.S. Representative Jeff Van Drew declared that the city had received approval to proceed with a multimillion-dollar seawall expansion that had been planned for almost four years.Hundreds of properties that might one day be at risk of floods would be protected by the proposed improvements along Beach Avenue. Following recent requests from local officials to begin construction, the Cape May City Seawall Flood Mitigation Project, for which the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced a $24.3 million grant in 2022, can now get underway.
