ACPD Searches For Family Members Of Officer Killed In Line Of Duty In 1930

Atlantic City police are trying to find family of an officer killed in the line of duty nearly a century ago. BreakingAC.com reports the death of Patrolman William Nichols recently was discovered by the Officer Down Memorial Page during their ongoing historical research efforts, the site’s digital director told BreakingAC. Nichols was fatally struck by a train Sept. 24, 1930, after helping two first-graders safely cross the tracks at Illinois and Baltic avenues, according to the page. Illinois is now known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The latest finding led to Atlantic City police putting out a call for anyone who may be related to or know of Patrolman Nichols or his family.
