Bald Eagles

Bald eagles in New Jersey are dropping despite being taken off the endangered species list, with 5% fewer nests than a year ago, officials reported on Thursday.According to the state Department of Environmental Protection, highly pathogenic avian influenza is probably to blame for the fall.Large numbers of sick and dying waterfowl were caused by the HPAI outbreak in the winter of 2024-2025, particularly snow geese and Canadian geese.
