A web cam may be mounted atop 40th and Central in Sea Isle, the public works building, so that residents can see flooding as it happens. The camera is being paid for through a grant from OceanFirst Bank, distributed to a group of 20 municipalities in the form of the New Jersey Coastal Coalition. Cost of the camera in total is about $5,000 and the goal is to let residents know what parts of the city to avoid when floodwaters enter the picture.
Egg HarborTownship wants to rip down four old motels and it’s looking to FEMA for financial help. Under terms of a $2.4 million grant, the area left behind after those motels are gone would have to be turned into parks or trails…some kind of green space. The properties in question are the Hi Ho Motel, Destiny Inn, Bay Point Inn and Budget Motel.

Todays ruling focused on the pharmaceutical company’s online form distributed to employees. Amy Skuse’s lawsuit claiims she was fired for refusing to receive a yellow fever vaccine she says goes against her religious beliefs as a Buddhis because it contains animal derived ingredients. The court held clicking a button to acknowledge reading the materials didnt constitute an explicit agreement.
New Jersey gambling regulators are looking into a sports betting tournament held over the weekend in which some competitors were unable to make bets on an NFL playoff game, costing them a shot at a $1 million top prize. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement said it is reviewing the DraftKings tournament that is the first high profile tournament of its kind since sports betting was legalized in New Jersey.
Entrants were restricted Sunday to betting on the two NFL playoff games.
What effects will taxpayers feel from a property-tax appeal settlement with the former Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort? County Executive Dennis Levinson says his understanding from the state is that there will be no significant impact on taxes. Back in 2017, then-Governor Christie said all remaining property tax appeals filed by casino properties had been resolved in Atlantic City. The new settlement is considered a surprise development. Levinson says there will be no tax increase this year. The budget address was presented to freeholders Tuesday but will not be introduced until the Jan. 29 meeting in two weeks.
They’ll be talking climate change when this year’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference of the Citizen’s Climate Lobby rolls into Atlantic City later this month. The conference, open to the public, is happening at the Claridge Hotel Jan. 25-27, and includes workshops on climate change on coastal communities along with fishing, agriculture and public health.
A $7,500 check presented to the The Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Egg Harbor Township. The money, from the Joy In Childhood Foundation, which is a a charitable partnership between Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin’, will help support hunger relief efforts locally.
A loaded handgun was found on an Atlantic City man who already has three weapons cases pending against him. Police say 22 year old Marcus Seda was busted late Monday night on the 1300 block of Atlantic Avenue. He first tried to run from officers but was caught. They were tracking him down for an active contempt of court warrant at the time.
The Atlantic County Executive has chosen Sam Mento III and Thomas Attanasi to lead the board of education in Hammonton. .The choice came after the vote to elect a president and vice president for the board ended in a tie vote earlier this month. The noiminees at that time were Mento or former board Vice President John Lyons for president, and Attanasi or Barbara Berenato for vice president.
Police responded to Atlantic City High School Tuesday after a student suffered some kind of medical emergency while in the pool there. That student was treated on-scene and also taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for evaluation. No word on the nature of the medical issues the student had.
