Union Efforts Making Marks In Hard Rock, Ocean Resort Casinos

Unionize is on the minds of close to 2,500 workers at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City and Ocean Resort Casino. Hard Rock is the former Taj, Ocean was Revel before it closed. Local 54 has already been recognized as the bargaining agent for Hard Rock bartenders, servers and other hospitality workers. There are about 1,200 potential members at Ocean who are still in the paperwork part of the process. Local 54 currently represents about 8,500 casino workers in Atlantic City.

Stockton University’s MLK Day Of Service A Success

High winds and low temps did not keep nearly a thousand Stockton University students and members of the community from coming out to celebrate the university’s 15th annual Martin Luther King Day of Service. Both in-house and external community partners hosted workshops, seminars, and other activities. In Atlantic City volunteers cooked and made sandwiches for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and sorted donated clothes for the Eastern Service Workers. More than 50 South Jersey Industries employees and their families attended the event, helping with various projects at different sites. The annual event is coordinated by the Stockton Office of Service Learning. Campus.

Man Charged With Arming Teen For Fight Due In Court

A pre-indictment conference is set for February 11th for a Galloway Township man accused of giving weapons to a juvenile relative for a fight and then recording the fight on his phone. 26 year old Shamir James allegedly gave the 15 year old girl a stun gun and brass knuckles and also helped the teen during the fight. The girl was charged with aggravated assault and weapons counts. James, too, is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and other offenses.

Second Educator At Pleasantville Arrested

The investigation is ongoing after a Pleasantville High School teacher was arrested late last week for having a sexual relationship with a student. 30 year old Jessica Gaeckle of Galloway Township allegedly had sexual contact with an 18 year old student at least twice and told the student to destroy any evidence once she learned of the investigation was underway. Back in August, then-Principal 49 year old Edward James Bonek was charged after police said they found more than 1,000 images and videos of child pornography on his school-issued computer.
