Man Charged After Crash In Absecon

On Sunday July 23, 2023 at approximately 3:25 a.m., the
Absecon Police Department was dispatched to Route 30, westbound, for a crash
involving 2 vehicles. The initial investigation indicates a 2019 Nissan Sentra, operated
by Edward Johnston, 25, from Egg Harbor City, NJ was traveling westbound on the
White Horse Pike when it went off the roadway to the right and struck a 1995 Honda
that was parked on the shoulder. An 8-year-old boy, who had been fishing with his
father, was asleep in the vehicle at the time. He was transported to the hospital, but
later died as a result of his injuries.
Johnston was issued several motor vehicle summonses. Additional charges may be
forthcoming pending final investigation into the cause of the crash.
