Police and members of the Atlantic County SWAT team were in the area of Tremont Avenue and Bates Drive Thursday morning in Egg Harbor Township for a disturbance. The Press of Atlantic City reports a caller had reported someone with a firearm. The intersection is not far from Fernwood Avenue Middle School. Officers were called to the area about 4 a.m., and while en route, they received a report from a caller that the man had a firearm and that he may have discharged a round from the weapon. Officers made contact with the suspect when they arrived; however, the man ceased talking with police and ongoing attempts have been made to re-establish communication the individual.
