Equine Encephalitis

Following a case in Salem earlier this year New Jersey has confirmed its third case of eastern equine encephalitis this year in a 28-year-old female grade horse in Ocean County. The horse exhibited signs of depression, disorientation, falling and incoordination, or ataxia, of its front and rear limbs, the state Department of Agriculture said Tuesday in a news release. Due to clinical deterioration, the horse was euthanized, the state said.
