$10.3 Million Coming To South Jersey For Public Safety, Non Profits

Government, public safety and nonprofit community projects in South Jersey received $10.3 million in federal funding, according to U.S. Rep Jeff Van Drew. According to the Press of Atlantic City, programs in Salem, Cape May, Cumberland, Ocean and Atlantic counties received part of the annual disbursement. Members of Congress can request direct funding for specific projects in their district. The funds, previously known as earmarks, were renamed last year, and projects must meet established criteria to ensure transparency and accountability, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, which tracks the funds.
