37 year old Fred Gilbert from Egg Harbor City, and a Sergeant with
the Atlantic County Justice Facility, has been charged with Official Misconduct and
related offenses based on his involvement in an incident that occurred within the Atlantic
County Justice Facility in 2023.
Gilbert is charged with Official Misconduct, Witness Tampering, Obstruction, and False Reporting to
Law Enforcement Authorities. It is alleged that on June 12, 2023, Gilbert concealed or destroyed contraband after it
was recovered from an inmate who was being held inside the facility for unrelated
charges. Additionally, Gilbert instructed a junior officer to create a false document
indicating the contraband was not recovered and authored his own report indicating the
same.
