Oral argument on whether the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority can intervene in a lawsuit to stop Phase 2 of the Atlantic Avenue ‘road diet’ is set for March 18 after a conference with the judge last week. The Press of Atlantic City reports
CRDA attorney Stuart Lederman filed a motion Feb. 13 to intervene in a lawsuit filed by a group of casinos and AtlantiCare against the city in December. The casinos and hospital are seeking to stop further restriping of Atlantic Avenue, planned to reduce it to two to three travel lanes from four, saying it will create gridlock and slow emergency vehicles. The plaintiffs also argue the CRDA and not the city has jurisdiction over traffic patterns under state law, because Atlantic Avenue is mostly in the Tourism District.
