Clean Ocean Action is releasing its annual beach report Thursday, a yearly look at the trash found along the Jersey Shore during two volunteer cleanups. The Press of Atlantic City reports the Beach Sweeps report released Thursday listed 176,206 total items of trash that 3,664 volunteers picked up during last year’s bi-annual spring and fall beach sweeps at more than 75 locations across the state. The beach sweeps hosted by the nonprofit are its way to get the community involved in efforts to remove and reduce the amount of ever-growing marine debris off beaches that plague local, national and worldwide aquatic ecosystems.
