Ocean City proposes to take on $159.45 million in capital improvements over the next five years under a capital plan presented to City Council on Thursday. The plan includes $30 million for improvements to the city’s public safety building, which city finance director Frank Donato acknowledged was a bigger number than members of council expected.Officials have described the current building for police and the municipal court as obsolete. That’s in addition to a planned police substation on the Boardwalk, for which the city bonded $6.5 million last year. Work on that building on Eighth Street could begin in July.
