Officials Look To Curb Homeless Encampment Fires In AC

Fire officials and city leaders in Atlantic City are looking for ways to curb recent fires at homeless encampments. There have been a string of them recently, including one that killed a homeless man. The Press of Atlantic City reports Boardwalk Committee Chair Tom Lamaine said during a Friday meeting, “It’s not illegal to be homeless, but it is illegal to start fires under the Boardwalk.” The fires have been happening as the city is embarking on a $26 million repair and rebuilding program for the aged structure, which runs about five miles from Gardner’s Basin to the border with Ventnor.
