AC Man Sentenced On Gun Charge

25 year old Jerome Ford of Atlantic City has been sentenced to five years behind bars for unlawful possession of a handgun.
On February 22, 2020, members of the New Jersey State Police Atlantic City Task Force
conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing a traffic violation. Ford, who was seated in the
passenger’s seat of the vehicle, was searched during the stop after the police smelled burnt
marijuana and were concerned for their safety. Police recovered a loaded .38 handgun in the waistband of Ford’s pants. Ford did not have a permit to possess or carry a handgun. Ford was sentenced after he entered an “open plea” to the sole count of the indictment. As a result of the open plea, there was no plea agreement between the defendant and the State and
Ford was sentenced in the Court’s discretion.
