A Mays Landing man faces charges after police found he was carrying a fawn in shopping bag while being questioned about a shoplifting incident. The Press of Atlantic City reports 23 year old Matthew Keithley was charged with illegal possession of a deer, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest by flight and providing false information to a law enforcement officer. The incident happened at the ShopRite at 297 Route 72 when officers saw a baby deer poke its head out of the bag.
