With half of all districts reporting, the three-way race for the Democratic nomination for mayor appeared to come down between incumbent Judy Ward and challenger Lawrence “Tony” Davenport, with a slight edge to Davenport. According to the Press of Atlantic City, as of 9:30 Tuesday night, Councilman Davenport was leading with 43.58% of the vote to Ward’s 41.05% of 950 votes counted. Julio Sanchez Jr. trailed with 15.37%. Ward was elected four years ago as the city’s first woman mayor and Atlantic County’s first Black woman elected mayor.
