Mohammad Huq, who said he has worked in the maintenance department for Atlantic County for three years, was appointed Wednesday night to fill part of the unexpired term of Democratic 5th Ward Councilman Muhammad “Anjum” Zia. According to the Press of Atlantic City a special election to fill out Zia’s full term will be held concurrent with the general election Nov. 5.An Atlantic County Superior Court judge ordered Zia removed from office in August, after Republican 5th Ward candidate Maria Lacca successfully sued, proving Zia has not lived in the ward or in the city since he was reelected in November 2023.
