An Atlantic City police sergeant who had been battling Stage 4 stomach cancer has died. Jefferson Rivera was 45. BreakingAC.com reports the department joined together in recent months as Rivera’s condition worsened and his medical options were running out. On Aug. 31, there was a police convoy that paraded through the Egg Harbor Township neighborhood where the family lives in honor of his son’s birthday. Rivera is an Atlantic City native who became a police officer in 2006.
