Ousted Atlantic City council member, 51 year old Muhammad Zia of Egg Harbor Township has been indicted for second-degree Witness Tampering and third-degree Terroristic Threats. On June 19, 2024, it is alleged that Zia, during a court proceeding at the Atlantic County Civil Courthouse, in Atlantic City in which Zia was a party to the proceeding, verbally threatened
a witness in the proceeding in the hallway outside of the courtroom. At the time of the incident, Zia was a sitting Counselman in Atlantic City. The court proceeding was to determine whether Zia met the residency requirement of living in Atlantic City in order to be a council member in the city.
