Avalon Police Sergeant Files Civil Action

A police sergeant in Avalon has filed a civil action seeking to get his job back after being fired in May. According to the Press of Atlantic City, in April, a hearing officer sustained charges against Stephen Bowers, after an investigation that began in 2024, alleging Bowers went home during his shift on multiple occasions and then lied to investigators. An internal review alleged four violations of the rules and regulations of the Avalon Police Department, including allegations of leaving his post without just cause, not properly patrolling, violating operating procedures and conduct unbecoming an officer.
