Report: Bridge Replacement Costs Could Reach $350 Million

A planned replacement of the Middle Thorofare Bridge at the south end of Five Mile Beach, and two other spans leading to the Garden State Parkway, is expected to cost $350 million and replace the draw bridge with a much higher fixed-span bridge. According to the Press of Atlantic City, Cape May County officials say it will be the largest construction project in county history and during construction, a huge new fixed-span bridge will be built above the existing bridge. Officials are hoping they can nail down some federal funding to offset costs.
