Atlantic County has confirmed its first rabies case of the year after a raccoon collected from Oak Drive in Absecon was confirmed positive for the viral disease on September 17.
Health officials were notified of a raccoon that had been brought to the Atlantic County Animal Shelter after it was observed behaving strangely by local police. The raccoon was euthanized and sent to the state lab for testing.
An investigation by the Atlantic County Division of Public Health found no known human exposures.
