According to the Press of Atlantic City 18 months ago, Atlantic Cape Community College opened a $3 million center to train workers for careers in offshore wind as New Jersey strove to become the East Coast hub of an industry that was still seen as promising.Since then, economic and political setbacks have all but halted offshore wind in New Jersey and greatly dimmed its prospects elsewhere on the East Coast. But Atlantic Cape is using what a dean calls “the pivot” to tweak and refocus the center’s offerings, making it a place where people can come for general safety, fire and rescue training for any number of industries.
