Crews from two of Egg Harbor Township’s volunteer companies rescued five people and a dog from flood waters in a West Atlantic City motel Monday. Police Chief Fred Spano lauded the work of first-responders from the Bargaintown and West Atlantic City stations, but he said the rescues should not have been necessary.
Motel owners along that flood-prone stretch of the Black Horse Pike were given written notification Thursday that they would need to find other arrangements for anyone in first-floor rooms, the police chief told BreakingAC.
Then early Sunday, the owners were given in-person warnings that there would be flooding and they would have to find other rooms for their first-floor tenants, “and they didn’t,” Spano said.
