Brigantine is the latest to declare a local state of emergency following a series of storms that have damaged its beaches. NJ.com reports Brigantine’s city council passed the resolution at a Nov. 5 meeting citing “severe beach and dune erosion,” and asked for immediate federal and state assistance. Officials in Brigantine say the storms, including last month’s nor’easter, have created sand cliffs, and destroyed both berms and dunes in place to protect homes and other infrastructure. The width of the beach has also been reduced. The damage is widespread, between 15th Street North and Roosevelt Boulevard, the resolution said.
