According to the Press of Atlantic City police prevented a resident from being scammed out of $95,000 this week after the individual was talked into sending a check through UPS. The man said he was on his computer Thursday when a message popped up indicating it was infected with malware and urging him to call a specific number, police said Tuesday in a Facebook post. The person who received the call gained remote access to the man’s computer and told him money was mistakenly deposited into his bank account. He was then instructed by the scammer to purchase a cashier’s check and send it through UPS to an address in Queens, New York, police said.
