Pleasantville paid its former business administrator over $165,000 in sick leave and severance to which she was not entitled after vacating her position last year, an investigation by the New Jersey State Comptroller found. NJ.com reports the city is now asked to collect that money and end payout policies that New Jersey officials say result in wasteful payments. In 2023, Pleasantville authorized over $2 million in emergency appropriations “for the purpose of funding the payment of contractually required severance liabilities resulting from the retirement of existing city employees.”
