Citing his handling of the child abuse case against Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife, the city’s school superintendent, the NAACP and local religious organizations demanded on Monday that William Reynolds, the prosecutor for Atlantic County, step down.The county’s top lawyer should resign, they added, citing Reynolds’ request that a county commissioner who is the father of one of the defendants in that case abstain from any votes pertaining to the Prosecutor’s Office.Reynolds indicated he will not step down. His office released data over the weekend that showed the county’s homicide and nonfatal shooting rates dropped by 50% in 2025, making it the safest year on record.
