Just before 6a Monday, officers responded to Black Horse Pike and Venice Avenue after a Honda Civic crashed into a utility pole, Egg Harbor Township police said. Zykyeem Jenkins, a 24-year-old Manchester Township resident fled the crash on foot, leaving behind his 24-year-old passenger, semi-conscious with serious injuries behind in the vehicle. Jenkins jumped into the bed of a pick-up truck that had slowed to check on the crashed vehicle, police said. Jenkins attempted to conceal himself within the bed of the pick-up truck and also attempted to steal several tools that were located in the bed of the truck, police said. Jenkins was quickly located and taken into custody for driving while intoxicated. Jenkins and the passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for nearby injuries, police said. He was charged with assault by auto, burglary to a motor vehicle, hindering apprehension, DWI, as well multiple other motor vehicle violations, police said.
