Urban Enterprise Zone

Atlantic City would be designated as an Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) for ten years under a measure in the state legislature. The program, which has been in place in New Jersey since 1983, permits some localities to lower sales taxes in an effort to strengthen their local economies.Half of the regular state sales tax would be paid by customers. Half of New Jersey’s 6.625% sales tax would be paid by customers at qualified establishments, which is a significant benefit meant to encourage increased spending in the city.
