Atlantic City Councilman Mohammed “Anjum” Zia testified Tuesday that he lives in an apartment he owns on North Brighton Avenue, not with his wife and son, who live in a rented home in Egg Harbor Township.
It was the opening day of a trial in a lawsuit filed by Republican challenger Maria Lacca, who lost the election for the 5th Ward City Council seat to incumbent Democrat Zia by 44 votes in November. The Press of Atlantic City reports
Lacca is suing to force Zia out of office and for a new special election for the 5th Ward, alleging Zia lives in Egg Harbor Township rather than Atlantic City.
