A Pennsylvania man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly tried to scam an elderly couple out of $60,000 by posing as a federal agent. According to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, 51 year old Dipen Patel of Bensalem, was charged with theft by unlawful taking. Officers got a call at 4 p.m. from a woman who said her parents withdrew a large amount of money from their bank account, saying her parents were on the phone with an individual who claimed several bank accounts were opened using one of their Social Security numbers.
The alleged scammer told the parents they must empty their bank account and turn the money over to an individual who would deposit the money into a secure account.
